I have been involved with designing unique book covers for publishers and individual authors for over 20 years. If you are a publisher or an agency representing a publisher, please contact me about how we can work together.

There is no doubt, people do still judge a book by its cover – especially if they are browsing or don’t already know much about the author. A good book cover design (unlike the one below!) can make a massive difference to the success of any book.

OK, but I could just use a book cover template – there’s thousands to choose from…
Well, yes, you can (I can help if you really decide you want to do that). Templates can be OK. They are like a pre-made set of visuals – that everyone else also can see and also choose for their special and unique book project – which suddenly isn’t potentially so unique any more. Often you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for and so might need to opt for the closest match, or adapt the template which could even end up taking longer than starting from scratch!

From short-run digital books and mass market paperbacks to prestigious hardback volumes, I can lead you through the entire book cover design process from creating a range of initial visuals, any changes needed right through to unique finished and technically accurate final artwork. I will also carefully design the spine and back to compliment the front cover of your book. If you have a series of books, I can design a series, and include a discount for designs after the first cover is completed.

Book Cover Design for Print
This simply means anything designed that will end up being physically printed. I’ll design a range of options for your book after an initial consultation with you. Once you’ve chosen a design, I will produce a couple of alternatives for the spine and back designs and make changes requested as we go. Once a final complete cover design is chosen, I will produce technically accurate print-ready artwork to send to the printer of your choice. I can also generate a barcode for your book if you have an ISBN number. Included with print designs is a 3D digital cover mock-up (see below).
I strongly recommend you request a proof from the printer that will be physically printing your book (will incur additional costs directly with the printer). If you request a proof from the printer, I am always happy to make late changes to the digital artwork files, based on a proof, as part of my service.

I can also advise you about social media and search engine optimisation – even email templates and building an email list of contacts. Many of these things can be connected to, or built into your main author website. You can also point people to your website from other book promotion or blog websites. The more places you appear, the more likely you are to be seen, can create links and connections and ultimately make a sale.
