From ideas to paper and screen…

Graphic design is basically defined as is the art of designing advertisements, magazines, books, websites etc by combining pictures and words. But graphic design involves a lot more than simply combining pictures and words. Of course, without a fantastic concept, idea or business model any design can only do so much, and as always, the content is king, be it images or copy. However, design can massively enhance the customer’s experience and understanding as well as emotion towards a product, service, article promotion or website and can be the difference between someone ignoring or engaging with an idea or concept. There is much more that goes into a good design, and the brainstorming, scoping and creative processes before anything hits paper or screen, is a central part of the design process. I use the latest industry design software to create designs for print or digital. I’ll walk you through the various stages as much or as little as you like throughout the whole design process.

The three main types of design I do

01

Design for Print

This simply means anything designed that will end up being physically printed in some form such as on paper or exhibition panels. This includes printed book and magazine adverts, stationery, catalogues, posters, point-of-sale, CD covers, DVD covers, exhibition stand graphics, corporate identity and many other projects.

02

Digital Design

Digital design is relatively new compared to print design. It is a very fast-moving design area encompassing website and email design, design for social media and the list goes on – including AI. Alongside graphic design, digital design often comes hand-in-hand – especially if you want to reach a much wider audience, or have the ability to reach the same audience through multiple channels. For example, you can produce artwork (electronically) for a printed book, and then re-purpose that content for an ebook. Of course, video production for content is now also a massive area that integrates into digital design.

Mac Artworking

Mac or PC artworking is generally centred around the digital production stage of a project. This will typically be after much of the initial creative side of the project has already been carried out. Mac or PC artworking also involves updating / re-purposing and re-sizing or transferring from traditional artwork to digital artwork for a new lease of life or a specification change.

‘I have worked with Creative Bytes for many years and found the attention to detail to be quite outstanding. Trevor is extremely thorough in all aspects of design and page layout, whilst still maintaining a creative flair. TRevor has a great understanding of the book industry, both in its physical and digital form, with a broad range of knowledge in typography.’
